An 800-year-old cathedral, “morcilla” and E-bikes
Exploring Burgos – Spain on a Ebike. A long time ago I had a pending visit to my friend Ismael, he is a photographer and we have traveled many places and countries together. The truth is that having two small children of almost two years old it is difficult to do as many trips as before, but I hope that soon the situation will change a bit (I mean better hahaha).
At this time of the year in a large part of the Spanish geography it is difficult to ride a bicycle, at least it is before 7 pm. It’s really hot. Luckily we have places like Burgos that sometimes hide a special microclimate and surprise us with slightly lower temperatures than in other regions. Thanks to this we were able to enjoy a whole day of MTB without dying of heat.
The magic of the electric bike
Ishmael has recently decided to go over to the dark side and has managed to get hold of an Ebike, with which he confesses to being in love. So taking advantage of the fact that that week was the Fiestas de Burgos we decided not to leave the city and explore the trails that he hides nearby. We also take the opportunity to do some sightseeing and admire his old Cathedral or taste some black pudding tapas at Manolin’s bar (Norte Gastro Bar), an old friend from our BMX days and who is now a seasoned mountain biker. If you pass through Burgos I recommend you pay a visit.
The Ebikes have opened up an incredible world before us, in my case they are a super useful tool when it comes to exploring new places, accessing complicated mountainous areas or simply making the most of my time and combing all the local trails in a couple of hours . This is how we did it in Burgos and in this way we discovered that the city houses in its heart an endless number of fun trails that surround its castle.
If you visit the city and don’t have a lot of time, you can let off steam touring the winding singletrack in this area, there are also some parts that local riders have prepared with cambers and jumps. It is not lost, you can find the tracks on platforms such as Wikiloc and download them directly to your mobile, smart watch or GPS.
Burgos: history and nature
If you like time travel, you’ll feel right at home here. Burgos is a city located in the north of Spain, known for its rich history and impressive architecture.
When you walk through the streets of Burgos, it’s like you’re walking into a history book. The old part of the city is full of medieval buildings and cobbled streets that transport you to another time. The jewel in the crown is the imposing Gothic cathedral of Burgos, which dominates the skyline and leaves everyone speechless with its majesty.
After soaking up culture and history, you can enjoy the local gastronomy. Burgos is famous for its delicious black pudding, a unique and tasty sausage that you cannot miss. You can also enjoy traditional dishes such as roast lamb, which melts in the mouth, or enjoy some tapas accompanied by a good regional wine.
If you are a nature lover, you are in luck. Burgos is surrounded by impressive landscapes. You can take an excursion to the Hoces del Río Duratón Natural Park, where you can admire imposing cliffs and spot birds of prey in mid-flight. Another option is to visit the Fuentes Carrionas and Fuente Cobre-Montaña Palentina Natural Park, where you can go hiking and enjoy the tranquility of nature.
But Burgos is not only history and nature, there is also time for fun. During the summer, the city comes alive with festivals and cultural events. You can enjoy open-air concerts, dance and theater performances in different corners of the city.
In summary, Burgos is a city that envelops you in its history, delights you with its gastronomy, amazes you with its architecture and allows you to connect with nature. It is a perfect place to enjoy a vacation full of unique experiences and unforgettable moments.
